Today Rosie and Nicolle were joined by guest co-hosts Naya Rivera, MSNBC anchorwoman Jodi Applegate, and Mario Cantone.  Whoopi is still out because of her injured back and Rosie P is rehearsing her Broadway show this month.

Fan By Association:  Last night Ohio State beat Oregon to win the national title in college football.  Jodi’s husband is in sports broadcasting so he stayed up late to watch the game.  She showed some adorable pictures of her kids.   The panel (mostly Rosie, Nicolle and Jodi) discussed motherhood and how motherhood, in general, can make it difficult to lose weight whether you give birth to the baby or adopt.  Naya stayed up late to watch the game and was happy Ohio beat Oregon.  Her brother, Michael Rivera, actually plays football for the Oakland Raiders.  Rosie asked if her other siblings are intimidated by their success.  Naya said her sister is actually a successful model and Rosie jokingly said, “Okay so you have a model, an actress and an NFL player in your family.  Your parents sucked.”

Conspicuously Absent: The White House has now admitted that they should have sent a high profile official to Paris for the peace march.  The White House is citing security concerns as the reason but Rosie thinks all the other world leaders surely had security concerns too!   Nicolle defended the White House yesterday but thinks she was probably the only one who did.  Jodi feels like this is a story about “pictures and images” and when she saw the photo of the leaders arm in arm she wondered why the U.S. wasn’t represented.  Rosie said this incident is very symbolic of the way we [the U.S.] is perceived around the world.  We are often seen like we think we’re better than others, as if we make our own rules and that we’re not part of the world community.  And that thinking fosters a lot of negativity towards our nation and she believes the photo wasn’t helpful in combating those beliefs.  Nicolle thinks this incident was shocking because the White House, specifically this White House, has been good about getting the images they put out right.  At first she thought the President didn’t go because of a security concern but if all those other world leaders could remain secure she wondered why they couldn’t have done it for Obama too.

Better Late Than Never:  The winners of yesterday’s Mega Millions jackpot have just revealed themselves.  The winners are an 80-year-old retired New York principal and his wife.  They opted for the lump sum which comes to $130 million after taxes.  Rosie wanted to know if anyone has ever watched the show The Lottery Changed My Life and seen the many stories of people whose lives have been ruined after they won so much money.  Mario compared it to people getting overnight fame and said some people just can’t handle it.  He said people come out of the woodwork and start asking you for money.  Rosie agreed.  She said people have even asked her for money through Twitter.  She said she understands, because these are hard times, but she said no one, not even a celebrity, has a magic wand to fix your life.

Swim For Your Life/Shower Talk: Ex-football player Rob Conrad just held a press conference recounting an incident last week where he fell off his fishing boat off the coast of Florida and had to swim to the shore for 16 hours through shark-infested waters.  Mario said, “He’s not an ex-Dolphin, he’s a dolphin!”  They all agreed what an amazing story it was.  Jodi said she heard Rob’s wife say it was like he was swimming with his daughters, his angels, on his back and that’s what got him through it.  Nicolle said she’s afraid about what’s in ocean water and Rosie joked that they’re going to have to do a show all about Nicolle facing her fears one day.  Rosie had always had an image that Republicans had control over both the world as well as their internal emotions and it shocks her whenever she hears the list of things Nicolle is afraid of.  Nicolle got embarrassed because Rosie made fun of her for showering 3 times a day.  She defended herself saying she showers once in the morning, once after the show to remove the self-tanner they put on her for The View and once before she goes to bed to remove all the dirt and grime from just being a mom.  Rosie made a funny, side-eye face in Nicolle’s direction.  Naya said she was going to go out on a limb and state that white people shower a lot more than ethnic people.  She said showering more than once a day, or every day, is “such a white people thing.”  She said dermatologists say you should only shower once or twice every three days.  Then, if that’s the rule, Mario said he wants a bidet!

Josh Gad walks out to warm hugs from Rosie!

Josh Gad:
The adorably funny Josh Gad, the voice of the character Olaf in Frozen, is now starring in a new comedy The Wedding Ringer, as a groom-to-be who calls in a pro to help him with his wedding party.  Josh said he’s really good friends with Kevin Hart with whom he filmed the movie and he joked that sometimes that can be a “problem.”  He said Kevin likes to have a lot of fun and while they’ve been promoting the film they’ve gotten into some trouble together (some fun that’s not appropriate for daytime TV).  They even crashed a wedding together!  Josh described the film as a bro-mance, with enormous heart, about friends who go on a journey together.  Mario said the first time he ever saw Josh act was when he played Elder Cunningham in Book of Mormon on Broadway.  Mario said it was the, “Greatest comedic performance he has ever seen!”   Rosie also loved Josh in Book of Mormon, as well as in the play The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling BeeJosh said he always dreamt of being on Broadway and for him that was his ultimate goal.

Here’s a little clip of Josh Gad in Book of Mormon!

Rosie realllllly wanted to talk to Josh about Frozen.  She said she likes Frozen so much she’s even been thinking about getting an Olaf tattoo! So, Rosie and Josh played a little game to see who knows Olaf better!  During the game, So You Think You Know Olaf, each contestant (Rosie and Josh)  had to see who could complete the Olaf dialogue from movie.  They played a clip from the movie and the contestant had to buzz in if they thought they could complete the line.  And ROSIE WON!

Ioan Gruffudd: On the hit series Forever, Ioan Gruffudd stars as a brilliant medical examiner with a big secret.  Ioan said his character is secretly hiding that he’s immortal and has lived for 237 years.  Ioan talked about his role in the film Titanic and about how when he was just 13-years-old he was already an accomplished singer!  He and Naya know each other because he was in an episode of Glee.  Ioan grew up admiring stars like Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Leonardo Dicaprio and Ewan McGregor.  They talked about his Welsh heritage and how difficult Welsh town names can be for Americans to pronounce.  The hosts asked Ioan to pronounce some Welsh town names that look almost impossible and he did it with ease.  Forever airs tonight at 10/9(c) on ABC!  Don’t miss it!

YouTube Stars: All week long The View has been saluting YouTube superstars and today they honored 10-year-old cookie mogul Cory Nieves, creator of Mr. Cory’s Cookies.  Cory said he got into the cookie business because at first he just wanted to buy his mom a car.  Then he started doing it to save money for college and hopes to attend Princeton someday.  He said the secret ingredient in his cookies is LOVE and they made some cookies together on the show.

Today on The View Rosie P was still in rehearsals for her Broadway show and Whoopi is out with a back injury.  Joining Rosie O and Nicolle on today’s panel were Nikki Glaser, Mario Cantone, and Michelle Williams (formerly of Destiny’s Child) who all entered the stage to the rhythms of Michelle’s new CD, Journey to Freedom.

Hot Topics:

Golden Globes Dish: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler really went for it last night as hosts of the Golden Globes! Everyone was in agreement. They showed a clip of the duo poking fun at Bill Cosby and several other highlights.  Rosie called the women “brave, funny and smart.” Nicolle said loves award shows and said watching the Golden Globes is like an event in her house.  She loved how in love George Clooney is with his wife.  Michelle hopes Clooney’s love for his wife clues other women in, that they don’t have a chance with him anymore.  To which Nikki quipped that “she will age, and they will have a chance.”  Nikki’s joke made Rosie laugh so hard she dropped the “f” bomb!  They were all touched by Michael Keaton’s tribute to his best friend, his son.  Mario believes the tribute, which made Nicolle cry, reflects that they have gone through something very deep and meaningful together.  He also noted that between the spray-tans and the heat in the room, all the actors were so sweaty they looked like basted turkeys!   They discussed Catherine Zeta Jones and Jennifer Lopez’s looks for the evening.  And Mario joked that Prince looked like one of his Italian aunts, but everyone agreed he is an icon.

Message From Whoopi: Today viewers got a message from Whoopi from her hospital bed, which you can watch on The View’s Facebook pageNicolle went to visit her in the hospital over the weekend and declared her to be “fiery, feisty, and hilarious.”

Rosie’s Weekend: Rosie almost went to the hospital herself this weekend because of stomach pains and then concluded it was because of her “squat/thrust AKA take a poop, reach for the sky” workout on Thursday’s show.  The workout sent her stomach muscles into seizure practically.  She concluded that if she continued to do that workout, she would look like Pink in about three weeks.   Nikki recently fired her trainer because all she was doing was paying someone to teach her “new ways to hold in a fart.”  Rosie quoted her Nana, “Wherever you shall be, let your wind go free.”

Coded Beyonce Instagram Pic: Beyonce recently posted a picture on Instagram of her buried in sand with a mound of sand on her belly that makes her appear to be pregnant.  Michelle gave the inside scoop on Beyonce saying there is no truth to the rumor that she is pregnant.

United in Paris:  World leaders united in Paris over the weekend to show support over last week’s terror attacks.  The U.S. is getting a lot of criticism for not having a top official present.  Nicolle reminded viewers that when the President goes anywhere, thousands of people go with him and she assumed a decision was made that his presence would take away from the event itself.  She said the event was “exquisite” and she bawled when watching the unity march on TV.  She noted that the leader of Jordan (who is a direct descendent of the Prophet who was ridiculed in the magazine) linked arms with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  The diverse crowd created an incredible moment to witness. Nicolle did say we should have done a better job and had someone there, but that doesn’t take away from the significance of the event.  Mario said that the fact this happened at a comedy magazine really affected him as a comedian.  Nikki joked that the picture of the leaders with linked arms looked like “the most intense game of red rover” she’s ever seen in her life.

Remembering Taylor Negron:  Taylor Negron, who was a friend of both Rosie’s and Mario’s, passed away over the weekend. Mario said he just adored him.  He said no one made him laugh more than him.  He referenced an article Taylor wrote where he referred to himself as “not famous, but fame-ish.”  He warned people not to write “R.I.P. Taylor” on any social media as readers would think Rip Taylor died [again]. Everyone agreed that he was brilliant.

50 Shades of Grey: Actor Jamie Dornan is playing Christian Grey in the film and he said he’s worried he will be killed by an obsessed fan like John Lennon was, if they don’t like his performance.  Rosie advised Jamie that he not put those thoughts out into the world.  She said, “Only put into the world things you want to attract towards you.  Don’t put out negative things because the universe works with the law of attraction.”  And Nikki thinks Jamie shouldn’t be comparing himself to John Lennon.  Nicolle wanted to know what the deal was with the books and Rosie referred to them as basically “soft porn S&M bondage books.”  Mario said it can be a little scary to be out in the public sometimes when you’re a celebrity and he kind of understood the fear of the obsessed fan.  Michelle thought maybe that was just one of those thoughts Jamie shouldn’t have said out loud.

Nicolle’s Puppy:  Nicolle introduced the audience to her new puppy, a Vizsla named Honey!  She said the real heroes are the ones who rescue dogs.  She admitted she’s not a hero, she’s just in love with the breed.  Her older dog, Lily, is actually related to the puppy (her Great-Great-Aunt) though Lily is not so fond of the new puppy just yet.

Guests:

Doctor Oz Two Week Rapid Weight Loss Plan:  Nearly two million people are already on board with Dr. Oz’s Top 10 Rapid Weight Loss Plan and he came to The View to show them how it works!  He said his show has helped millions of people lose millions of pounds of weight.  The diet stresses eliminating refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, wheat, dairy and alcohol.  In its place he suggests drinking hot water with lemon every morning, which cleanses your system.  He suggested drinking the lemon water instead of coffee, if you can.  He said to make a smoothie for breakfast with protein powder and fresh or frozen berries.  And the diet stresses the importance of protein and tons of vegetables in your other meals.  Rosie drinks the hot lemon water every morning and she confirmed that drinking vegetable broth helps turn off cravings.  Oz also recommended tree nuts (not peanuts), nut butter and pickles.

On line Superstars and The Electric Violist: Lindsey Stirling the electric violinist, has racked up over 700 million views on YouTube!  She joked that it is easy to be the best at what you do if you are the only that does it.  And Lindsey believes people “gravitate to authenticity.”  Michelle mentioned how Lindsey has overcome a lot of rejection especially after being voted off of American’s Got Talent by Piers Morgan.  But Lindsey was quick to point out that she is still on TV and he isn’t!  She gave a WOW amazing performance.

BARBARA WALTERS, NICOLLE WALLACE, CRISTELA ALONZO, ROSIE O'DONNELL

Hot Topics:

Will She or Won’t She: The ladies discussed when and if Hillary Clinton will announce her run for Presidency.  Barbara said she recently went on a vacation and saw the Clintons at the late Oscar de la Renta’s house.  Hillary did not reveal to Barbara if she was going to run or when she was going to announce but it wasn’t because Barbara didn’t ask!  Barbara did say that Hillary seemed very relaxed and she and Bill seemed very close.  She recalled another time they vacationed together when she witnessed Bill reading poetry to Hillary.   Barbara had heard rumors that Hillary was going to announce her run for Presidency this month but Barbara doesn’t think she will announce until spring.  Nicolle agreed and thinks Hillary will choose to do things on her own timetable this time go around.  Barbara said Hillary and Oscar de la Renta were very close and she and her friends got together to mourn his passing.  Cristela lost her mother years ago and said they found themselves laughing as they were gathering to remember her and it was really unexpected.  Barbara said she lost her little dog Cha-cha recently.  Nicolle said she’s getting a puppy this weekend and she asked Barbara if she would like to come with her!  Barbara said she’s not ready just yet to get another dog.  Nicolle has a Vizsla and she said she loves her so much, even more than her husband.  She wanted her son, who is now 3-years-old, to have the experience of raising a puppy.  It is their Christmas present to each other.

Should Parents Spy On Their Children: The ladies discussed whether or not it is okay for parents to spy on their children when it comes to technology.  Rosie believes as long as she’s paying, she has the right to monitor her children’s cell phones and Internet usage.  She doesn’t even need to be looking at her teen’s phone to spy on them.  She can see what they’re doing on their devices from her own laptop with spyware.  Nicolle believes Apple products are made for the brains of a toddler because of the ease with which her son can navigate her devices.  She plans to spy on her son too when he grows up and has his own phone.  She said the Internet can be a terrifying place and she’s also afraid her son might accidentally purchase something really expensive!  It’s not that Nicolle doesn’t trust her son, she said she just doesn’t trust the people on the other end of his device.  Rosie said she would never let her child hang out on 42nd Street alone just like she won’t leave her child alone with free reign over the Internet without being monitored.

Nicolle and the adorable Mario Cantone did another commercial for Centrum Silver.

Crafty-U:

viewearringsRosie convinced Barbara to get crafty!  She taught Barbara how to make Shrinky Dinks.  on photo paper.  Rosie explained the process to Barbara and in the middle of the segment Rosie suggested taking her to a craft store to show her around.  Barbara’s response was, “I couldn’t be more bored.”  lol  Rosie made her a bracelet with the faces of her most memorable interviews, some View earrings, and a necklace with her late dog’s face on it.   Rosie also reminded everyone to “like” The View on Facebook!  And while you’re at it, “like” Rosie on Facebook too, won’t ya?

Guests:

Chelsea Peretti: Comedienne Chelsea Peretti, from the show Brooklyn Nine-Nine, sat down with the ladies to discuss what she’s been up to lately!  Chelsea said she was inspired to go into comedy by stars like Gilda Radner, Roseanne Barr and shows like Monty Python.  She has been doing standup for the past 14 years and she now stars in the hit show Brooklyn Nine-Nine with Andy Samberg.  But that wasn’t how they first met!  Andy and Chelsea have known each other since elementary school!  In fact, she used to have a crush on him.  Brooklyn Nine Nine won the Golden Globe last year and Chelsea compared the experience to having 10 surprise parties all at the same time.  She said it was that exciting and unexpected.  Cristela loved Chelsea’s standup special on Netflix entitled One of the Greats.  Chelsea is very active on social media.  You can follow her on Instagram HERE where she loves to post #ThrowbackThursday posts.   Brooklyn Nine Nine airs Sunday nights at 8:30 pm EST on FOX.

Patrick Stewart: Over the holidays Patrick stopped by to talk to Whoopi and Rosie Perez about his role as an aging ballet star forced to come to terms with his past in his newest film entitled Match.  Patrick said he was actively looking to do something a little different and when he read the script he related to the story.  He too has had to make sacrifices for his career just as the character does in the film.  He talked briefly about his new marriage, acting as a voice talent in American Dad, his years spent doing Star Trek and how much he loves doing puzzles in his free time.   The film Match opens in theaters January 14th!

Host Update: Whoopi is still out this week because of an injured back and Rosie Perez is rehearsing her Broadway play.  Nicolle and Rosie O were joined by their guest co-hosts Laverne Cox and Cristela Alonzo.

Hot Topics:

About Last Night: Nicolle had a great time on Watch What Happens Live last night but said it was so late for her!  She called herself a “nerd” for complaining about staying up so late.  Other than that, she said it was an awesome experience.  She even took a shot with Andy!  Rosie said she’s only done shots once in her life when she was 19-years-old.  She went out to an Irish pub with some friends and they did one of every shot they had available.  She said the liquor tasted just as bad going down as it did coming back up and she’s never done a shot since.  Cristela just did some shots for her birthday!  She loves getting older because she feels like every year her life is even better than the year before.  Not only does Cristela not lie about her age, she likes to say she’s older than she is so people will tell her how fantastic she looks for her age.  Laverne said people like to make assumptions about you and where you should be in your life by a certain age, especially if you’re a woman.  She thinks it’s better not to talk about age at all.  Cristela said that’s especially true if you’re a Latina.  She’s 36, not married and doesn’t have kids yet.  She said she’s as rare as a unicorn in the Latin community!   She feels pressure all the time to get married from her family.  Rosie said, “It’s nice to know you can be the star of your own show on network television and your mother will still say, ‘What are you doing with your life?'”

American Idol Wrapup:  Laverne tuned in to American Idol last night mostly so she could see what Jennifer Lopez was wearing.  She thinks J-Lo is just beautiful.  Rosie and all the other ladies at the table agreed.  Rosie said when J-Lo was voted “Most Beautiful Woman” in People Magazine, her daughter Vivi had just learned to read.  After Vivi read that title on the People Magazine cover, it became a fact in her mind ever since.  Nicolle agrees and thinks J-Lo also defies the rules about what women should and shouldn’t be doing at certain ages.  Nicolle thinks J-Lo is “aging in reverse” and gets hotter and hotter every year.  She also thinks she’s an inspiration to women who are aging and trying to maintain their beauty.  Cristela said she always tried to emulate what J-Lo looked like by doing her makeup the same way.  In fact, she used to work as an assistant for J-Lo’s travel team.  Rosie said she’s very appreciative of J-Lo because she’s the Executive Producer of a show she’s on entitled The Fosters!

They discussed American Idol and whether or not the show ruined the ending of the audition shows by showing a silhouette of all the finalists.   Laverne liked that the show wasn’t really about spotlighting the bad singers but Nicolle thinks that’s what the show is missing.  Nicolle misses the “Simon Cowell aspect.”  But Rosie and Laverne think everyone is mean on reality TV now and it’s time for an evolution.  And Cristela agreed.  Cristela wished there were more reality TV shows that focus on the good in people.

Crisis in Paris: The hunt is still on for two of the three gunman who stormed the offices of the French satire magazine Charlie Hebdo. Yesterday, 12 people were killed who were publishing cartoons about Muslims and the profit Mohammed.  Writer and comedian Tiny Fey is calling this an attack on free speech and many others are saying the same. Rosie called it a very sad and scary event.  Nicolle said 12 people paid with their lives for practicing their right to free speech which is as cherished in Paris as it is here.  Laverne said there is always a price for free speech.  Whenever she’s on TV she’s very careful about what she says because there are always people ready to attack her.  But at the end of the day, she said she honors the right to have freedom of speech.  She said this incident is a reminder that people in other parts of the world don’t believe in that right.  Nicolle said this is an attack from an ideology that doesn’t believe in free speech.  Laverne said it’s a reminder about how courageous and dangerous it is to stand up for what you believe in.  Cristela thinks the best part about freedom of speech is when you rile people up because then you know what you’re saying is important and matters.

Laverne said as a trans-woman, she can’t help but think of this as an issue of language.  If you go to her Instagram, you can see examples of people always using the wrong pronoun when referring to her and as a trans-woman, that’s something very important to her.  It’s not about censoring others for their own freedom of speech but she also believes in respecting people for who they are.  She thinks it’s a complicated issue. Cristela believes respect went “out the window” when the Internet was created.  At first, Cristela saw the Internet as the new encyclopedia and a tool that was going to educate the world.  But what it became was a world of anonymity and a cesspool of horrible things said by strangers.  Nicolle said the counter-terrorism people all over the world are having this exact conversation.   She thinks we’ll see many more attacks like this against creative pursuits because of the Internet and the big debate in the government is whether or not we should take a look at the Internet as a tool for spreading this type of hatred.  Rosie said according to Edward Snowden we are already doing that.  But Laverne said the Internet also is used for good.  She said it gives many people a voice that did not have a voice before.  And Rosie agreed.  Rosie mentioned the Arab uprising in Egypt that happened thanks to the Internet and Laverne referenced the protests in Ferguson.  They both believe those events wouldn’t have been possible without the Internet and the connections made through social media.

How To Save Your Own Life: The story about the transgender teen that took her own life really devastated Laverne, the LGBT community and beyond.  A young woman named Leelah Alcorn took her own life by stepping in front of a tractor-trailer shortly after Christmas.  Her story went viral because she posted her suicide note on tumblr where she called out her parents for not allowing her to transition from a boy to a girl.  When she was 17-years-old she came out to her parents as transgender and her parents put her in conversion therapy, didn’t support her, and cut her off from all social media and her friends.  The isolation along with their disapproval made her feel like she would never become the woman she wanted to become.  Leelah’s death was very difficult for Laverne to talk about.  Laverne has talked publicly before about her own suicide attempt when she was just 11-years-old and whenever she hears about a young person taking their own life because they feel like it will never get better, she feels devastated.  It got better for Laverne when she was able to reach out and get support and when she was truly able to love herself.  She didn’t want to demonize the parents but she thinks by isolating Leelah and not supporting her, they did the absolute worst thing they could have done.  Laverne said there is always someone out there that loves you and teens need to try and remember that.  Rosie added that the rates of suicide among the LGBT youth is much higher than straight youth.  Laverne said that 41% of transgender people admit to having attempted suicide compared to just 1% of the rest of the population.  She thinks it’s partly because the transgender community lives in a world that doesn’t value or celebrate them.  It’s been so important for Laverne to understand that she’s beautiful, smart and amazing.

laverne-cox-cristela-alonzo-rosie-odonnell-nicolle-wallace

Rosie told Laverne that she has done more to advance visibility, acceptance, love and appreciation of the transgender community than anyone she has ever known.  She told Laverne, “Thank you” for all she has done.  She said for Laverne to stand in her truth so beautifully inspires so many people.  Nicolle watched Laverne’s documentary The T Word and wanted to know if there are support services for the parents of transgender youth.  Laverne mentioned The Trevor Project who she said has a suicide hotline.  Laverne said it was very hard for her mother to accept her but she’s come a long way and at the end of the day, her mom loves and supports her.  But it took some time for them to get to the place they are today.  Rosie always tells the gay teens who write her that it took them sometimes 18 years to come to terms with their sexuality and they have to give their parents more than a week to accept it too.

Justin Bieber: Justin Bieber is now the Calvin Klein underwear modelNicolle misses Marky Mark, she said.  She’s not a fan of Justin but thinks he looks nice in underwear.  Cristela likes Justin Bieber in the ads because he’s silent and he’s very pretty.  Just then the doorbell rang and Mario Cantone walked on stage!  He asked Nicolle if she was getting all the vitamins and minerals she needs and dragged her off the stage!  They did a little commercial for Centrum Silver vitamins about the importance of getting the vitamins you need every day.

Guests:

Kirstie Alley: She’s been raked over the coals by the tabloids for her struggles with weight but Kirstie Alley joined the program to show off her new svelte figure and to discuss how she did it!  This time she did Jenny Craig to lose weight and it worked because of all the yummy food.  It took her 9 months to get where she is now.  She also liked how Jenny Craig gave her her own consultant to help keep her in line.  Kirstie said she always loved food and for most of her life she could eat whatever she wanted.  Around the time she turned 53 however, she started to put on weight.  She lost 75 pounds and then gained it back.  She said thanks to the tabloids it appears as if she’s been fat her whole life but she’s really only been fat for 4 or 5 years of it.  She’s currently dating and for her, having sex when she was fat was never very good.  She was too inhibited to enjoy it when she was overweight.  Kirstie said she feels a certain responsibility as an actress to stay fit.  She thinks that’s fair but she doesn’t think it’s fair to make fun of her for her weight.  If you’d like to try the same diet as Kirstie, visit JennyCraig.com.

David Zinczenko:  ABC News Nutrition and Wellness Editor, and author of Zero Belly Diet, David Zinczenko joined the program to discuss with the ladies the 4 basic things we need to do to get heathy in 2015.

  1. Eat more burgers! He said with every meal we should be asking, “Where’s my healthy fat, protein and fiber?”  He advised the audience to use lean beef, a gluten-free bun and add veggies to your burgers for the perfect meal.
  2. Drink smoothies!  But not store bought smoothies.  David said to make your own smoothies with yummy fruits.
  3. Eat plant-based protein.  That’s the hot new supplement of 2015.  David said to mix it into your oatmeal, pancakes, smoothies, etc.
  4. Do an 8 minute exercise.  David said to take 2 hand-weights and squat down like you’re sitting in a chair then stand back up and do an overhead press.  Or as Rosie put it, “Take a poop and then reach for the sky!”  David said it’s a full body exercise and the only one you need.

Audience Giveaway: Members of the studio audience all went home with a copy of David Zinczenko’s book Zero Belly Diet and a Centrum gift bag with a Fitbit Zip!

rosie-donnell-nicolle-wallaceSay Yes To the Dress:  Yesterday, Rosie wore a DRESS and Nicolle’s parents loved it so much they called Nicolle three times yesterday to tell her!  Mario told Rosie how beautiful she looked in the dress and he said Twitter was going crazy over it.  They showed several Tweets to Rosie from fans complimenting her on her new look!  Michelle called Rosie Bootylicious, a reference to the Destiny’s Child hit from the early 2000’s.  Rosie thanked everyone for the compliments but admitted she did not choose the dress.  She credited the amazing stylist, Fran Taylor, who dressed her.  She did admit she felt a little self-conscious, however.  Rachel’s mom also called her about Rosie’s dress and said Rosie looked like a “smart, foxy Hollywood starlet.”  Michelle suggested Rosie wear at least one dress a month and Ro liked the idea but said she felt more comfortable dressed as Edward Scissorhands.  Mario also told Nicolle how beautiful she looked today and Nicolle gave all the credit to the stylists at The View for her look.

Drink Up:  Billionaire Bill Gates is supporting an initiative to get fresh water around the world to people who desperately need it.  However, the process is making some people a little queasy because it turns sewer sludge (human waste) into clean drinking water.  Mario said he would try the water if it meant it’s going to save the world.  Nicolle said she isn’t even sure the green drink she drinks every day doesn’t have poop in it!  As far as she knows it does!  And she said people spend more money on bottled water than they do for a gallon of gas at Whole Foods.  She would try it.  Rosie thought it was a wonderful solution to a world-wide problem.  Nicolle said they’re also making fresh water out of sea water which might be a little easier for everyone to handle.

Naked Ambition: A new article in Politico, entitled The Secret History of Women in the Senate, claims that back in 2008 North Carolina’s Senator Kay Hagan wanted to use the Senate pool but was told it was for men only because the male Senators liked to swim naked.  Mario said, “Yes, the sagging scrotums of the Senate swimming across partisan lines.”  Rachel was sure no one is googling for those images on the Internet.  Nicolle said Aaron Schock might make the water more inviting!  (And they showed a picture of the buff Congressman in his swimsuit.) Rosie didn’t even care if he was a Republican or a Democrat, she licked her lips at the image.  Then she said, “I put on that dress and I think I’m turning straight!”  Mario said, “If he’s a Democrat, he’s gay.  If he’s a Republican, he’s in the closet. Come on, look at him!”  The audience exploded with laughter.

Phylicia Rashad Speaks Out:  Phylicia Rashad recently broke her silence about the allegations against her TV husband Bill Cosby.  She said she thinks it’s an orchestrated destruction of his legacy in order to keep him off TV.  Michelle feels like Phylicia has worked with Cosby for years and if anyone should know him well, it’s her.  She thinks it’s good that someone who knows him so well would speak out because it really says something when your friends are silent and there are allegations against you.  Rosie asked if there can be a very talented entertainer who did so much for civil rights and racism who may also be a serial rapist.  She said both could be true even if they don’t make sense in our heads.  She doesn’t think 27 women in their 60s and 70s would lie in order to ruin Bill Cosby’s career.  Rachel thinks it’s offensive and insane to say the women are just looking for their moment in the limelight.  Mario said unfortunately, because of the statute of limitations, Cosby will never be able to prove his innocence and the victims will never be able to prove their allegations are true.  He doesn’t know what to think about it.  Nicolle said either way it depresses the hell out of her.  Rosie said rape is happening all over the country in a way that’s shocking.  One in six women will be raped in their lifetime and some statistics say it’s as many as one in three.  Mario (half jokingly) said he thinks sexual predators should be castrated and Nicolle was surprised by this statement.  She said it was a “very Republican approach.”  Michelle feels badly for the women because if the stories are true they’re not being believed.  Rachel thinks rape is treated differently than any other crime.  She said if 26 people said they were all mugged in the park we wouldn’t all doubt them but when it’s rape we suddenly start asking questions like, “What were you wearing to cause that to happen?”  Rosie said rape is a crime of power, not sex.  She said it is a crime of both power and violence against women.  She referenced her friendship with Stephen Collins and when she saw his interview about him using the hand of a 10-year-old to pleasure himself it made her physically ill.  She was bothered by Collins’ dismissiveness about the incident along with the way Katie didn’t push him in the interview at all.  To her, it felt like a re-violation because she would like Collins to know what it feels like to be the 10-year-old girl on the receiving end of that abuse.  He seemed to equate that they were equals in the interview, which of course, they were not and that really bothered her.  She said it’s a very difficult subject to talk about in society but it’s necessary.  Michelle said it’s a bigger topic than just what happened with Bill Cosby.  And Nicolle said we have to be careful not to diminish Phylicia Rashad either because this is her truth.  And there’s a possibility that what she said is true too.  Rosie said there’s a slim chance that what Phylicia said is true.  She likened it to when a mother in an incestuous family knows the father is sexually abusing someone in the household but chooses to deny it because that’s the safest place for their brain to land.  She called it “cognitive dissonance,” or holding two thoughts in your brain at once, and said that should be the goal for everyone in 2015.  Mario asked if they could move on to the next topic before he had to take a Xanax.

rosie-odonnell-rachel-feinstenMistaken Sexting: Rachel recently sex-texted some racy pictures to the wrong person!  What was so upsetting about it for her was that the picture wasn’t even a good picture!  She said it was done sloppily with a receipt by her foot and a half-eaten muffin in the shot.  When she realized she sent the picture to the wrong person she freaked out and called her friend Amy Schumer.  They both know the guy and to make Rachel feel better Amy sent him one too!  Now that’s a good friend!  He has since deleted the pics, so he claims.

Million Dollar Interview:  Rosie asked the group if any of them had seen The Interview.  Rosie said she saw it because her teenagers really wanted to see it while they were on holiday break.  She thought it was a cute comedy and said that Seth Rogen is “incredibly talented.”  Michelle was embarrassed to admit it but she was afraid to watch it.  She thought North Korea would come after her.  But since Rosie is still here to tell the story she might attempt to watch it.  Mario saw The Interview and liked it too.  He said Seth is a wonderful actor.  Mario thinks what the North Korean hacking really did was to allow Middle America to see what really happens in negotiations.  He said producers say stuff about actors and actors say stuff about producers.  Rosie said there’s a new movement out about net neutrality and keeping the Internet free.  Some see the North Korean government hacking scandal as a way some people in this country can push the agenda that we must do a better job of “policing the Internet” and therefore, making it no longer free.  Rosie said today the Internet is sort of seen as the fourth estate.  She said since all the major news channels are owned by major corporations, the Internet is oftentimes the way we get alternative “non-corporately owned” news.  Nicolle was a little surprised by this theory and said she never would have thought it.

Guests:

Jerry Springer:  Jerry Springer joined the program to discuss his brand new dating game show on Game Show Network entitled Baggage on the Road.  Jerry is in his 24th season of his talk show and said he thinks it’s so popular because it’s “so crazy and so out there.”  He said when the show first aired people had never seen anything like it.  But nowadays, with social media as it is, people are coming on TV to talk about their private lives, not just sharing everything on social media.  Mario blamed Jerry for everyone’s social media oversharing and he replied, “I just hope hell isn’t that hot.”  When asked about his most memorable guest ever, Jerry said it had to be the guy who was married to his horse.

Jerry has another show on GSN entitled Baggage.  He said it’s a traditional dating show but the twist is people come on and reveal personal details about their lives that they may not have normally shared with a new partner.  They’ve filmed 300 episodes of Baggage and now they’re taking it on the road to college campuses with Baggage on the Road.

Game – Rosie’s Baggage: The hosts played a game where they stood in front of 3 pieces of luggage that each contained a secret about Rosie’s past.  The other hosts had to guess which item was actual baggage she would bring to a relationship.  The items were:

  1. I will only sleep on sheets that contain cartoon characters.
  2. I eat my hair.
  3. I am obsessed with popping other people’s pimples.

Everyone KNEW number 3 was the one!  Baggage on the Road airs tonight on the Game Show Network.  Don’t miss it!

Joshua Sasse:  Joshua Sasse stars in the musical mini-series Galavant, the highest rated new comedy of the year, where he plays a dashing hero planning a journey to save a damsel in distress from a wicked king.   He joined Nicolle, Rosie and Mario to discuss the show’s premise, a musical comedy where the heroes aren’t very heroic and the princesses aren’t very dainty.  Josh talked a little about his role in the musical Mama Mia and how he’s an active Twitter user!  Follow Joshua on Twitter hereGalavant airs Sunday nights at 8pm EST on ABC.
