  • Taylor Swift on The View: The ladies discussed how excited they were to have Taylor Swift on the show today.  Whoopi really feels like Taylor Swift has her act together.  She loves it when she hears about her fans because Whoopi really feels like she’s leading them in the right direction.  Rosie O agreed.  She spoke about the longevity of Taylor’s career and her new number 1 album.  Nicolle also loves Taylor Swift and how nice she is.  Rosie O said her 11 year old is not talking to her though because she didn’t let her cut out of school today and come to the show.  Rosie P said she should have let her!  Whoopi said you meet a lot of performers who have no idea what their art is but Taylor really knows her art.
  • Viral Video: The ladies discussed a viral video going around of a woman walking down the streets of NYC getting catcalls from all over.  She was harassed over 108 times over a 10 hour period!  No one at the table was particularly surprised but Nicolle said that has never happened to her on the street.  Rosie P was surprised by that because she thinks Nicolle is really hot!  Rosie P said it happens to her often and unless the guy is really rude or disrespectful she doesn’t mind the compliments.   Rosie O said her wife gets catcalls a lot and Michelle isn’t bothered by it.  Whoopi said older women often tell her how much smaller she looks in person and how big and fat she looks on television.  Rosie O said the worst was the time when some woman came up to her at Target and said, “I don’t want to insult you, but you look like Rosie O’Donnell.”  She said, “Ew!  Don’t say that!”
  • Costco is Closed on Thanksgiving: One of their favorite stores,Costco, has decided that they will be closed for Thanksgiving.  They all loved that the Costco employees got to stay home on the holiday and think that’s the way it should be.  Nicolle said Nordstrom is also closed on Thanksgiving in order to celebrate the holiday and to allow their employees to celebrate with their families.  Good for you Costco, and Nordstrom!
  • Must Have Monday Extended:  The Must Have Monday flash sale has been continued until Thursday (10/30) at 12:00pm Pacific Time while supplies last.    Don’t miss this opportunity to get up to 85% off the retail price on some fabulous gifts for your friends and family!
  • Truth & Consequences: Rosie O’s son Blake grabbed his older brother’s BB Gun and shot out a window of a truck that was parked in their driveway.  Rosie O made him pay for it and he was really mad at her.  He also wrote an apology note to the owner of the truck.   All the ladies agreed it was good parenting that Rosie made him pay for the window.  Whoopi thinks it’s an important lesson to learn.  If you damage someone else’s property, you have to pay for it.
  • Rosie P Celebrating An Anniversary: Today was the anniversary of the day that Rosie P’s husband proposed to her.
  • Harry Potter Can Rap:  Rosie O loved the video of Daniel Radcliff rapping on The Tonight Show!  She adores both of them.  Watch the video here.
  • There’s An App For That: There’s a new app that can get you out of a bad date.  It’s called Dorothy.  It includes a device that you can clip onto your shoes, so that you to click your heels to make your cell phone ring.  That way you can pretend there’s an emergency and you have to leave if you’re on a bad date!  Nicolle said this app is the technological version of what she learned on Sex In the City when Carrie Bradshaw used to have her friends call her when she was on a hideous date.
  • Rosie O’s Lil Pumpkin: Rosie O showed some adorable pictures of her baby Dakota at a pumpkin patch yesterday.
  • Nicolle’s Wardrobe Malfunction: Nicolle wore royal blue by mistake yesterday and she’s convinced that’s why the San Fransisco Giants, her favorite team, got killed in the World Series.
  • Republicans Want Their 2 Seconds on The View: Nicolle said a lot of Republican’s reached out to her yesterday after Elizabeth Warren visited the show and they want to make sure they are mentioned too.  She encouraged Republican voters to support and vote for Senator Mitch McConnell, Scott Brown in New Hampshire and David Perdue in Georgia.   She said when she’s voting she typically votes for the Republicans and she doesn’t care who the viewers choose to vote for, as long as they get out and vote.  Whoopi said if the audience doesn’t vote they have no right to bitch about what happens in our government because the only way things will change is if we change them.  Nicolle emphasized how women determine the outcome of elections.  Rosie P encouraged that voters to do their homework and not just listen to political pundits when they go out and vote.
  • Unrecognizable: The latest star people are calling unrecognizable is filmmaker Kevin Smith who just posted pictures of himself clean shaven and a whole lot thinner.  He said he lost weight by cutting out sugar and walking more.  Rosie O loves him but doubts you can lose that much weight by “walking more.”  However, she said, if he’s had some sort of weight loss surgery she’s sure he will own up to it.  Though he says he did not.  She said it’s hard for someone to go from how large he was to how small he is now without medical intervention but she said it is possible.  Rosie P said there are people who were very large and lost lots of weight naturally and she doesn’t care how they do it.  Rosie O thinks it’s great he lost the weight and said he looks like a totally different person.
  • Cute Baby Videos: Whoopi showed a video of her great-granddaughter’s first taste of ice cream.  Little Charlie got a taste of an ice cream bar and refused to give it back to her mother who was video taping the tasting!  Whoopi thinks her mother (Whoopi’s daughter) is “in for it” and she’s going to enjoy watching.

Guests:

Taylor Swift: The talented Taylor Swift joined the ladies of The View to screaming applause!  The audience sang Shake It Off to Taylor and she simply adored it.  She recognized a lot of her super fans in the audience too!  Taylor has a new album out entitled 1989.  She’s been spending a lot of time online reading the comments on Instagram and Twitter and she realized she and many of her fans are going through the same difficult struggles.  Everyone has to deal with people talking about them and she said the reaction has to be the same, you have to shake it off.  She said it’s human instinct to defend yourself when people have the wrong impression of you but you have to let go of it. Taylor said her label was a little nervous about this album, though they would never admit it now.  She’s never presumptuous about winning awards because she feels like if she is then maybe she won’t work as well creating her art.  She said she keeps a nice healthy level of insecurity going at all times.   Taylor said it’s interesting how feminism has come up so much more in the past year for her.  She said she was never really taught the definition of feminism as she was growing up but she’s realized it’s just about equality.  Taylor said it’s been a life-long dream of hers to move to and live in New York City.  She said New York City feels like “endless possibilities.”  She’s donating all of the proceeds from the song Welcome to New York to NYC public schools.  Regarding the women Taylor chooses to surround herself with, she said she looks for women friends who really have their own passions, dreams and ambitions.  She said her friends challenge her, motivate her and make her want to be smarter, stronger and better.  They showed a video of Taylor visiting a little boy in the hospital who was suffering from leukemia.  They discussed National Cat Day and talked about how much Taylor loves her cats.  She joked that her cats have become very famous and all the fame is going to their heads!  Her 1989 Deluxe Album is available exclusively at Target and has three extra songs on it.  It also has three songwriting voice memos from her personal cell phone!  She added those to the album so she could show people how her songwriting process starts and then they can listen to the album to see where it ends up.

Bethenny Frankel: Bethenny Frankel joined Nicolle and Rosie O to discuss her new book Skinnygirl Cocktails which details her own personal cocktail recipes, all under 150 calories each and really easy to make.  She sees drinking as kind of an accessory and a conversation starter and said her cocktail recipes will make your guests happy.  They briefly discussed her years on reality television and her return to the reality television genre.  She said being flawed and going through struggles in a public way was really what connected her to the audience.  She briefly discussed dating, her daughter and her failed talk show.

Audience Giveaway:

Members of the studio audience received a copy of Taylor Swift’s album 1989 and a copy of Bethenny Frankel’s book Skinnygirl Cocktails: 100 Fun & Flirty Guilt-Free Recipes.

Quoteables:

Whoopi: “No one completes you.  You are already complete.”

Rosie O:  “You would NOT believe that Harry Potter can rap!”

Rosie P:  “Do your own homework.  Know what’s on the ballot and vote.”

Nicolle: “I don’t care who you vote for, I just want you to vote next Tuesday.”

Taylor Swift: [about New York City] “It feels like endless possibilities.”

Bethenny Frankel:  “Being flawed and going through difficult times [on reality television], is really what has connected me to the audience.”

Hot Topics:

  • Messages To Start the Show: The hosts started today’s show with a message to former View host and friend, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, hoping she gets better soon!  Nicolle started a whole family drama yesterday! When she was discussing how she and her family are  huge San Francisco Giants fans yesterday, she showed a picture of her sister and her sister’s friend at the Giants game.  Nicolle mistook her sister for the friend and identified the friend as her sister!  Whoopi was surprised and said, “Oh! YOU all look alike too!”  Everyone roared with laughter.
  • Walmart Apologizes: Walmart has apologized for labeling plus-sized Halloween costumes on their website as “Fat Girl Costumes.”   Rosie O said as a woman who has been obese for most of her adult life, it is hard to shop for “plus-sized” costumes as it is.  She thinks it was probably a mistake however she acknowledged that there is fat shaming in America.  Nicolle agreed that we should all be referees to call out this type of behavior because it sends a terrible message, especially to little kids.  Rosie P said she was “fat” in 5th grade and was mortified when she had to shop in the “husky boy” section in the department store.  Rosie O said whenever she offends someone and they lash out at her through social media the first thing they call her is fat.  Whoopi thinks it’s time people just get over themselves because there are both fat and skinny people in the world but the connecting fiber is we’re all people.
  • Larry King Tweets: Larry recently showed the world that he has a way with Twitter and he’s at it again!  Each host read some hilarious tweets written by the King and his thoughts on a range of topics including, the smell of turpentine, pocket watches, buttered popcorn, rap music, water, mail, and lastly, “I’m glad Rosie O’Donnell is back on The View!”
  • Must Have Monday Extended: The Must Have Monday flash sale has been continued until Thursday (10/30) at 12:00pm Pacific Time while supplies last.    Don’t miss this opportunity to get up to 85% off the retail price on some fabulous gifts for your friends and family!  And maybe pick up a little something special for yourself…  🙂
  • Bill Maher: Bill Maher was picked as keynote speaker at UC Berkeley’s fall commencement but some students are fighting against it because of his comments about Islam.  The petition they’ve started already has 2,400 signatures.  Rosie P said when she thinks of Berkeley, she thinks about civil rights and activism.  She thinks they should invite him and protest his visit rather than ban him.  Rosie O remembered attending one of her brother’s college graduations and the students that were protesting the commencement speaker stood up and turned their backs during his speech in order to have their voices heard.  Nicolle’s commencement speaker was Oliver Stone and her parents are convinced that’s how she became a Republican!  The history of Berkeley isn’t banning speeches that offend you, it’s the fight for free speech.  She thinks it’s so interesting that the students of Berkeley would be squashing the very rights  their campus has fought for.  Whoopi thinks times have changed from a climate where you felt like you could protest and discuss to a time where people just don’t want to hear opposing opinions. Rosie O said Bill knows the price of what he says because he’s been fired before for stating his opinion.  She said you have to respect that’s what America is all about – freedom of speech.
  • Viral Video: Watch as a Chinese table tennis pro loses his mind after he wins a table tennis championship.  He was then stripped of the award money for the win because of his celebration.  Rosie O recalled the time soccer champion Brandi Chastain removed her shirt after the FIFA world cup final win in 1999.  She named lots of athletes who have broken things in celebration and frustration. Nicolle thought that celebration was what made the match interesting and thinks he should get his prize money.

Guests:

Mike Tyson: Mike Tyson joined the ladies of The View for a discussion about his new book Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth.  Mike loved the new energy of the show and said he used to be nervous to visit.  Now he’s got his Brooklyn side in common with Rosie PRosie P and Mike have known each other for years and they showed an old picture of them together from the 90’s!  He discussed his promotion company Iron Mike Productions, his improved relationship with Evander Holyfield and what a struggle it was for him to mature when he was growing up in the spotlight.  He said having an intimate relationship while he was fighting was almost impossible and he doesn’t miss it. Mike said he’s doing well with his sobriety right now but is always aware of the dangers of falling off the wagon.  He said all his success comes from his failures. His failures and losses, Mike said, have helped him arrive at his highest successes.  They showed a clip from his new project Mike Tyson Mysteries.  You can catch Mike Tyson Mysteries Monday nights on Adult Swim!

Elizabeth Warren:  Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren sat down with the ladies of The View to discuss today’s hottest topics in politics.  Rosie P asked Ms. Warren if she ever made out with Jon Stewart!  Jon had joked that he wanted to make out with the Senator after the way she spoke out against the bank regulators.  Elizabeth said Jon is very cute but she’s been happily married for 34 years and she’s not ready to change.  She explained what she meant when she said “the political system is rigged.”  What she meant when she said that was the government works for those that can afford to hire armies of lobbyists, lawyers and big campaign contributors and it doesn’t work anymore for real families.  She thinks we have to have real people take our government back and make it work for us.   Nicolle wanted to know how it felt for her to be so well received by democrats at a time when the political establishment is all but ready to coronate Hillary Clinton as the democratic nominee for president.  Elizabeth said it’s not about her but about the core set of issues they need to talk about which is about women voting.  She said, “If you don’t have a seat at the table you’re probably on the menu and that is absolutely the case for women.”  She said the only way women are going to have their voices heard about the issues they care about is by getting out and voting.  The 3 democratic women that Elizabeth thinks will determine the outcome on election night are; Allison Grimes in Kentucky, Michelle Nunn in Georgia and Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire.  Nicolle mentioned 3 republican women to keep an eye on in November’s election which were Joni Ernst in Iowa, Barbara Comstock in Virginia and Elise Stefanik in New York.   If you don’t live in these areas and can’t vote for them directly but still want to help, you can offer to make phone calls, give $10 (if you can) or by sending them an “atta-girl” in support.

Barry Manilow:  Barry Manilow joined the ladies to discuss his new album entitled My Dream Duets and the famous commercial jingles he’s written!    In his new album he sings emotional duets with famous artists who are no longer with us.  He sang I Believe In You and Me off his new CD for the audience.

Quoteables:

Rosie O: [regarding the word FAT] “It’s the one pejorative that everyone feels like they can throw at you with immunity.”

Nicolle: “I went to Berkeley.  My commencement speaker was Oliver Stone and my parents believe that’s how I became a republican.”

Whoopi:  [to Mike Tyson about his sobriety] “Listen, you’re gonna be fine. You’re not gonna go backwards. You’re on the right road.”

Rosie P:   [about Berkeley banning Maher as a commencement speaker]  “I think that instead of banning Bill Maher, invite him and have your say.  Challenge him.”

Mike Tyson: [when asked about his sobriety] “I’m kicking butt right now!”

Elizabeth Warren: “I think we have to have real people take our government back and make it work for us.”

Elizabeth Warren: [about women] “We’re half the population.  We need to be half of the government as well.”

Hot Topics:

  • Thoughts About The Weekend: The ladies began today’s show giving their condolences to all the families and the victims of the Washington state high school shooting tragedy.  Also, one of The View producers fell ill this weekend and is in the hospital,  so they wanted to let him know they were thinking of him too.  Rosie P wished a happy 50th birthday to her beloved cousin Sixto!    Though at first she jokingly wished him a happy 60th birthday because he once played a similar joke on her.  She said, “I got you back!”  Whoopi was back from her trip to Spain where she helped open the play Sister Act The Musical and she said the trip went great.  Nicolle was so happy her San Francisco Giants are doing so well in the World Series!  Rosie P joked with Nicolle that she should be rooting for the underdogs but Nicolle was having no part of that!  She said she’s a Republican and she already roots for the underdogs!
  • Ebola in New York: With one confirmed case of Ebola in NYC, Governor Cuomo and Governor Christie imposed a mandatory quarantine on aid workers returning from Africa.  A nurse was immediately put into quarantine right from her plane and now she’s threatening legal action for the way she was treated.  Rosie P likened this to the AIDS epidemic when it first began.  She wished people would have listened to the health care professionals instead of the media because that would have prevented some of the hysteria.  Rosie P thought Christie was quick to react to this crisis in a pretty severe way.   Nicolle pointed out that Christie imposed the quarantine in conjunction with New York State.  Nicolle watched the press conference this weekend between the two Governors and likes to connect the political dots.  She said there’s a widening gap between what our medical professionals are saying and what our political leaders are saying.  Whoopi was fine with the Governor’s imposing these restrictions but thought the hospitals weren’t prepared to deal with the new demands. Rosie O liked how the New York Health Commissioner spoke out against the fear and how we have to rely on science to guide our decisions.
  • Anthony Weiner is BACK:  Anthony Weiner is back on Twitter apparently and one of his favorite tweet friends is a lady called Sugarfuzz (@JoslynStevens).   Her bio reads, “Filling in for your wife since 2001. Indulge your sexual fantasies by having an affair. instagram/sugarfuzz.”  Whoopi wanted to know if Anthony learned anything at all the last time!  Rosie P was angry because Weiner was a good politician and he just threw it all away.  Nicolle did the Bill Maher show with Anthony Weiner in May of this year.  She thinks he’s a really good politician too.  Rosie O commented on how if she ever sees a male celebrity in their underwear she can never get the image out of her head.  She said it’s distracting for her if she’s seen them in their skivvies.   Whoopi joked how it’s only distracting if you can see it!

Guests:

Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley:   The cohosts of the CMA awards sat down to chat with the ladies of The View.  They’re both performing live this year and Carrie is up for Female Vocalist of the Year.  They discussed how much they love hosting together and how Brad’s kids are more impressed by Carrie’s musical talents than his!    Carrie is expecting and due in the Spring.  She said she’s nervous for the responsibility of parenting but excited.  Rosie O told Carrie how much she loved her in The Sound of Music live on television.  Carrie said it was hard and rewarding and the best thing about it is when people come up to her and tell her they watched it together as a family.  Brad has a new album that he dropped through social media entitled Moonshine In the TrunkRosie P asked Brad why he decided to release the album this way and Brad said he did it because he wanted to control the way everyone heard it the first time.   He thought it was the best use of Twitter and Facebook in order to make a splash and get attention for the album.  Carrie has a Greatest Hits album coming out in December.  She said it’s been 10 years since American Idol and it felt like a great time to do it.  She said there are some really fun extras on the album her fans are really going to enjoy.  Brad sang Perfect Storm for the studio audience and viewers at home.

Lawrence Fishburne: Lawrence Fishburne from the sitcom Blackish, joined the ladies of The View for a little sit-down about what it’s like to be a part of the hilarious new show.   He told Rosie P how proud of her he was and he thanked Whoopi for her documentary about Moms MableyWhoopi thanked Lawrence for all his advice when they worked together in The Color Purple.  Rosie P asked Lawrence what it’s like to work on a comedy as opposed to the serious roles he traditionally does.  Lawrence said this was a great opportunity to show his lighter side.  Regarding the controversy over the name of the show he said it could have several meanings.  For some people the word “blackish” is when black people kind of act white and for some people, it’s when white people kind of act black.  You can catch Blackish Wednesdays at 9:30 on ABC!
