I wanted more than anything to be a mom. But I came out at 17 in the early 1970s so that seemed an impossible dream. Now I have two beautiful daughters, ages 21 and 19. I think about the lightening progress of gay rights when I despair about the world. If someone had told me then what now would look like, I would have thought science fiction.
