Please don’t defend Joan until you have read Christina’s book. It rings true to those of us who have been abused. Joan was well known to be a narcissistic alcoholic. Christina was likely healthier than today’s adoptees, because many healthy young unwed mothers back then gave up their babies out of shame. We are all more like Christina than Joan.
