What people don’t get about “grooming” is that it is brainwashing, ie distorting the mind and reality of a vulnerable child to make them feel like it’s not abuse, that it’s consensual, and that they are both equally in trouble if anyone finds out. So asking why they didn’t come forward sooner is like asking why someone stayed in a cult.
