The adoption vetting process is in place to protect both the adoptor and the adoptee. All I had to do was complete a checklist so that DCFS could match the child to my strengths. As a single parent I did specify that I didn’t think I could help a medically fragile child. I took comfort in know that DCFS listened as I admitted my limitations.
