CANDLE DRESS UP

Materials:
Dried Flowers
Glue
Candles
Pliers
Wax*

* Prepare for the craft by melting the wax. Most wax comes in large bars, but it melts faster when it’s broken into smaller pieces. You can do this with a hammer and chisel.

To melt the wax, use a "double boiler" method – one pan holding the wax chunks is placed inside another pan containing boiling water.

Some things to remember:
-The boiling water sometimes splashes, so make sure the wax pan is tall enough so that the wax and water do not mix.
-Make sure you keep adding water to the bottom pan as it evaporates.

Dried flowers are brittle and break easily, so handle them with care as you arrange them on your candle. Affix the flowers to the candles using glue. Let the glue dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Using the pliers (to keep your hands away from the hot wax) grab the candle by the wick and dip it into the melted wax. Dip the candle in and pull it out in a smooth continuous motion. Then set the candle aside so the wax can harden. Dip again if it needs a second coat – but remember, each time you dip, you’re adding another layer of wax to the candle which makes the dried flowers less visible. Feel free to experiment with the items you apply to the candle – try ribbons, lace or even buttons.

Special Safety Note: Melting wax should never be left unattended. Please use added caution when handling hot wax and follow the wax manufacturer’s warnings and instructions very carefully.
