*The screen and frames can be purchased at a craft store. As an alternative, you can use a spare window screen and a wooden picture frame that you have around the house. A second frame (without the screen) is used to give your project a nice clean edge. However, if you want paper with a more irregular edge, try the craft without using the second frame.
TIP: Craft stores sell papermaking kits that include all the tools you will need to make this craft. These kits are a great introduction to papermaking!
Step 1
To make the pulp, shred scrap paper into tiny pieces.
Step 2
Soak the paper in water for at least 10 minutes (but if time permits, it’s best to soak it overnight).
Step 3
Using a household blender - on it’s highest setting - blend the scrap paper to a fine pulp.
Step 4
Pour the fine pulp into a tub with about 3-4 inches of water.
Step 5
With the second frame placed on top of the frame with the screen, dip into the water until the frame is submerged under the pulp that is floating around in the water. Slowly lift the frame straight out of the water.
Step 6
Keeping the frame flat, shake and shift from side to side to remove the excess water and allow the pulp to rest flat on the screen.
Step 7
Once the excess water has run off, carefully lift the frame off the pulp.
Step 8
Place a piece of fabric or felt on the top of your project and press lightly to help remove the excess water. Then remove the fabric and let the finished project dry completely.
TIP: You can use the leftover pulp in a cookie mold to create cool paper motifs for your cards.
