we were suppossed to drive to dc
i couldnt
i asked to fly instead
so i could sleep in my own bed

i pushed for a later flight  - 4 30
which was cutting it close
and very obnoxious of me
but - lori said ok

 we get to the airport
 the flight is pushed to 5 30
they board us early
and we see the crew talking

there r 4 of them
young beautiful - fit tanned
in uniform
which i find comforting

 do u think we will get out of here
i asked

fame is weird
some smile when they realize it is me
every time it happens for real
i cherish it

seeing someone lifted

the pilot was handsome
he told me - he had been to the true colors tour
two summers in a row
a huge cyndi fan

well - i am supposed to be on stage at 8 pm in dc
any way i can make it?

hmmmm he said confidently
i can try

and he did it
this miracle man
he got permission to fly lower
cut the line of planes waiting
and he got the last slot out
before they closed departures at laguadia

people amaze me
 there r no coincidences
magic is everywhere
always

so i arrive in dc at 8:15
lori and i run  to the car
2 menopausal women lumbering
in a real rush

and there is a kid - parkers size
 running toward me with a video camera
smiling ear to ear
very cute

the boy filming was adorable
so excited to have found me
giddy with glee
i wondered if he was in high school

he had a friend shooting stills
flash... flash ...
they  know from watching tv
blinking bulbs add to the excitement

the kid was walking backward very fast
with a frenzied grace
but he was new to this game
off balance

he kept reaching in his front pocket
with his free left hand
searching for something important
  it the camera shake a bit

"....ummm how's the view ..rosie ....."
"yea - elisabeth.... u gonna talk about her on the radio...."

he almost tripped over the curb
careful i tell him - 2 much like a mother
he nodded - reflex

finally he got the thing out of his pocket
a tiny paper with his notes on it
like chelseas homework assignments
crumbled into a ball

he looked down
and just as i reached the car
read off his cheat sheet
"and u and ur wife... he said ...whats up with that"

marriage is hard i told him
when u r married 12 years
lemme know how it goes
it aint easy

i missed dave - usually do - y bother
i caught hoarders
which - well - is hard to watch
the food rotting

i saw a trailer for a documentary

i am trying to get a copy

only the human boils get me

saw district 9 last night
wow - a lot in that film

only 2 1/2 weeks of summer left

most importantly - i am very tan
