last week in miami
chelsea caught a seagull
while fishing

she had a bait fish on the line
was reeling it back in
the gull saw it and bit down

hook thru the beak
panic ensued
4 both the bird and us

parker held the rod
like a crazed winged kite
squealing thrashing alive

we used a towel
2 cover and calm
rolando removed the metal

away she flew

when chelsea was 6
a barnacle cover lobster
climbed up her fishing line

i never saw anything like it
freaky looking
totally scary

when she was 8
she spotted a blue octopus
off the dock

can i catch it mama
she asked holding her yellow fishing pole
yes i said
thinking it impossible

up it came
squirting ink
skin shifting slimy

chelsea - my 10 year old
who prefers horses 2 humans
